4-H/FFA Livestock Information

All 4-H & FFA livestock IDs are due in the Extension Office June 15 for showing at the Butler County Fair. This date is also used by 4-H’ers who will show at State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben. Since this date is a Sunday, we will still accept those sheets on Monday, June 16. If you are placing them in the mail, they need to be postmarked before June 15.

Breeding beef, feeder calf, bucket calf, goats, sheep, swine and market rabbit forms are available at the extension office and on our website at http://www.butler.unl.edu/fourH/livestockidsdue061608 .

Quality Assurance

Quality Assurance training sessions have been given in most 4-H Clubs. If you did not attend the session and are registered for rabbit, poultry, swine, beef (including bucket calf), goats or sheep contact the Extension Office to be certified. QA training sessions must be completed by June 16.

Swine Exhibitors

Youth PQA Plus–All Butler County 4-H and FFA youth exhibiting swine at the Butler County fair are required to attend a Youth PQA Plus training. This is in addition to the QA training 4-H’ers may have taken in their clubs. We have 2 Youth PQA Plus training times remaining:

  • June 16 - 3 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. at the Hruska Library in David City.

4-H Sheep Tagging

Butler County 4-H sheep can still be tagged June 9 - 13. Sheep can be brought to the Courthouse parking lot. DNA samples for sheep (Ak-Sar-Ben and State Fair) are $6 per animal and $1 per 4-H tag.

Ak-Sar-Ben Breeding Gilts

The 81st Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Livestock Exposition will be September 25-28. Breeding Gilts must be identified with ear notches and registration numbers if they are purebred by June 15. ID sheets are available at the Extension Office. A complete listing of rules is available online at http://www.aksarben.org .

Ak-Sar-Ben Feeder Calf

All feeder calves for Ak-Sar-Ben need to be DNA tested prior to June 15. Please make arrangements for this if you wish to show them at that show. Cost is $5/animal.

Ak-Sar-Ben Poultry

The 81st Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Livestock Exposition will be September 25-28. Premium books are available online at http://www.aksarben.org . Order forms for Market Broilers are available at the Extension Office. The entry forms are due to Butler County Extension by June 27.
