Dakota County youth tried new things, leaned how to make the best better, had many successes and some projects not so successful during the 2007 4-H year. On October 21st 4-Her and their families celebrated the 2007 4-H year at the Hubbard Community Center for the annual 4-H Achievement night. A slide show highlighting activities and events during the year was shown. Rousing games of Bingo tested 4-Hers knowledge. Kayla Crosgrove, Heather Karrer and Katie Peterson gave presentations on the camps they had attended as a result of scholarships they were awarded in 2006. Good food, a good time and mostly recognition of accomplishments was celebrated.
A highlight of the evening was presenting Homer resident Don Wilke with a plaque for outstanding volunteer. 4-Hers 14 and older may apply for Outstanding 4-Her of the year, this is a one time award in their career. The 2007 recipient was Heather Karrer.
Since the beginning of the year 4-Hers have studied, cared for and worked on the various projects in which they enrolled. Part of the learning process includes keeping good records, setting goals and reporting on the results of the goals. 4-H members record their activities in a system called the Career Portfolio. The Career Portfolio builds yearly records throughout their 4-H career. There are 5 sections the 4-Hers adds to each year, these include project goals and learning experiences, 4-H leadership roles, non-4-H activities and community service, a story about their year in 4-H and a section for additional information including photos. The Career Portfolio is turned in to the UNL Extension Office- Dakota County and they are reviewed and judged by the 4-H Council. Awards presented at Achievement night are as follows:
